He wants to make his audience realize the amount of risks and trouble they take to escape the island and have their freedom once they hit US territory. This book caused an impact on the audience because of the vivid senses.

The lonely crossing of Juan Cabrera is well written. The book is written in third prospective, and the author explains the characters thoughs and emotions very specific.

Also the scenes are well described "a light breeze blew stronger". The book was definitely captivating, I could relate to Juan wanting to come to the US and become someone better then what he was in Cuba. I could relate because Juan passed several difficulties to achieve his dream, and I believe most people that come to e US face some kind of trouble.

The novel was a bit dramatic but enough to maintain you wanting to keep reading, which I think was a great strategy from the author.
